Frequently Asked Questions
When do private lessons take place? Private lessons are taught Tuesday to Friday, starting at 10:00am and ending around 6:30pm. It is preferable to schedule younger children at their best time for concentration, usually earlier in the day. When do Group Play-ins and Orchestra take place? Normally, group play-ins and orchestra are held every other Thursday evening at the Suzuki School approximately 15 times a year, from September through June. (If there are not enough viola students to form a group, violists are integrated into an ensemble playing whenever possible. Guitar students have their own groups.) In addition, students participate in recitals and large group concerts involving the entire School throughout the year.
Can I take group lessons only? No, Huntsville Suzuki School students must sign up for both private and group lessons.
Is participation in Group Play-ins/Ensemble mandatory? No but it is encouraged! Group playing activities are how we learn to play together as an ensemble, and can only be practiced as a group, not individually. Students who miss group play-ins or orchestra rehearsals have trouble playing in the large public concerts that we put on during the year. How much are the fees? These are listed on the Registration Forms, and are slightly different for violin, viola and guitar. My child does not have an instrument. How would I go about purchasing one? Each student needs to have his or her own instrument prior to the start of lessons. Students need to be sized by the teacher or an instrument dealer before purchasing an instrument of the correct size. Many students opt to buy or rent an instrument in Barrie or Toronto and trade it in for the next size as the child grows. The School can provide information about instruments and instrument dealers upon request. In addition, the School also has several violins and violas for rent. For more information, please use our contact form, or call us at (705) 788-0027. We look forward to meeting you and your child!
