New Students: FAQ

When do private lessons take place?

All private lessons on violin, viola and cello are taught Monday to Friday, generally between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. It is preferable to schedule younger children at their best time for concentration, usually earlier in the day.

When do group lessons take place?

Group lessons are held at the Suzuki School on approximately 15 Saturdays throughout the year. In addition, your child will participate in recitals and large group concerts involving the entire School.

How much are the fees?

The tuition fee for the 2009/10 school year is $102 per month for 10 months and includes the cost of weekly 1/2 hour private lessons as well as group lessons. There is also an annual school membership fee of $250 which is tax deductible.

My child does not have a violin.  How would I go about purchasing one?

Students need to be sized by the teacher before purchasing an instrument or beginning lessons. There is an instrument exchange currently in place in Huntsville. The school maintains a list of parents who currently have a violin or cello for sale or instruments can be ordered if one is not available. Violin packages average about $350 and cellos approximately $600.  A beginner package consisting of a CD, music book, notebook and rosin (strings only) will also be needed at a cost of approximately $50.  The school has a number of violas available for rent.

Can my child and I sit in on school sessions before committing?

You are strongly encouraged to bring your child to observe as many private and group lessons as possible while on the waiting list. This enables both of you to meet the teacher, observe other children at lessons and most importantly, can provide motivation for your child. You are welcome to enter and leave lessons at any time. Call (705) 788-0027 for suitable times to observe (i.e: other young children's lessons).  When spaces become available you will be called to confirm your continued interest. Lessons generally begin in the fall of each year.

We are looking forward to meeting you and your child. If interested, or for more information, please call us at 788-0027  or click on this link - huntsvillesuzuki@vianet.ca - and remember to give us  your name and contact information.
